Amren is a One-Handed weapon trainer. When you enter Whiterun for the very first time during the day you will overhear a couple discussing a missing sword. Offer your help to Armen and receive the quest Find Amren's Family Sword. Alternatively, you can find him at his house which is marked on the map.
He is married to Saffir and they have one daughter, Braith.

After installing and started the add-on, the guards in Whiterun will sometimes be attacking two vampires and Armen. If Armen is killed in this fight, he will be turned into a pile of ash and therefore no longer available for training.
