Armored Trolls are used by the Dawnguard in battle. They are considerably more powerful than regular trolls and wear armour over their bodies.
If the Dragonborn sides with the Dawnguard, then an Armored Troll can be hired from Gunmar as a follower for 500 
. While powerful, like dogs they are only able to follow simple commands such as waiting at a specified location. If accidentally hit, an armuored troll will leave the Dragonborn permanently. The only recourse in this case is to buy another one from Gunmar.
