Walkthrough[ | ]

The city of Whiterun being an ally to the Imperials, is under attack by Stormcloak rebels. You must help defend it.

Meet with Legate Rikke[ | ]

Once you have finished talking to Legate Quentin Cipius your next objective is to meet with Legate Rikke. You will find her standing near the main gate of Whiterun. Once you arrive you will notice the Stormcloaks have already begun their attack on the city using catapults.

Talk to the Legate Rikke, she will then give a short speech to the Imperial soldiers readying them for battle. Once this is completed, your new objective will be to defend the wooden barricades from Stormcloak soldiers.

Note: If you venture back into the City during the battle, terrified citizens will be seen running through the streets and from public buildings to their own homes where, they will at once lock their doors to prevent anyone from entering them during the battle. All the shop owners will lock their doors as well.

Defend the Barricades[ | ]

To successfully defend the barricades, kill the Stormcloak soldiers trying to get past them. If you fail at defending the barricades and they are destroyed, ...

Defend the Drawbridge[ | ]

... your objective will then change to defending the drawbridge instead.

Destroy Attackers[ | ]

There will be a percentage count on how many Stormcloak soldiers are left, once that count reaches 0%, you can go and meet the Jarl of Whiterun to complete this quest.

Notes[ | ]

  • No matter how hard you try, the enemy will get passed the first barrier.
  • Then again, jump from the wall above the barricades, and directly arrow the incoming Stormcloaks. With a powerful bow on-hit-kills should be possible. Thus you can pretty much ignore defending anything.
  • Strangely, even if the Dragonborn has married Lydia, but setting up home at Lakeview Manor, presently fighting the Civil War with Serana as follower, Lydia will actually exit the Dragonborn's Whiterun property. Fancy her visiting her original home (as housecarl) during the war.
