Gallus Desidenius was the former master of The Thieves' Guild and the lover of Karliah. He was betrayed and killed by Mercer Frey as he was investigating Mercer's stealing from the Guild coffers. He was also a member of the Nightingales, the elite protectors of Nocturnal.
He left behind a journal detailing what he had found out.
At the present time, his spirit is trapped in Nocturnal's shrine, unable to enter the Evergloom and still bound to the shrine. He is freed by the Dragonborn who returned the Skeleton Key to the shrine.
