“I will help Ulfric Stormcloak liberate Skyrim from Imperial control.
— Dragonborn
Walkthrough[]
This quest can be undertaken before or after Season Unending.
Report to Ulfric Stormcloak[]
- Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak
- We've driven the Imperials out of Whiterun. This is good. Very good. We now control the center. It's a powerful position. One I aim to keep.
- We'll call you Ice-Veins now, for the thick blood of our land has seeped into your heart.
- Here, take this. It's an Imperial officer's sword. A fitting weapon to use against our enemy.
- Dragonborn
- What's our next move against the Empire?
- Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak
- I suspect you'll be of greater use to us with greater freedom, so you're free to engage the Imperials as you see fit.
- But I also want you to find our hidden camp in Falkreath. Galmar will have special tasks for you, and will need you when we liberate the capital.
- Dragonborn
- What exactly will I be doing out there?
- Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak
- You'll be doing whatever Galmar tells you to do, and causing as much mayhem as possible for the Empire and any Jarl who supports them.
- Dragonborn
- Understood.
- Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak
- Talos guide you.
Liberate Falkreath Hold[]
After speaking with Ulfric, the Dragonborn must speak with Galmar at the Falkreath Stormcloak Camp. He will ask for help with the Rescue from Fort Neugrad. Once this is complete, Galmar will mention that the steward in Markarth, Raerek is secretly a Stormcloak sympathiser and ask the Dragonborn to find proof of this with which to blackmail the man. The launches the quest Compelling Tribute.
Blackmailing Raerek will reveal that an Imperial caravan loaded with weapons and supplies is slowly making its way to the Imperials. This allows the Stormcloaks, led by the Dragonborn to intercept the shipment.
After the ambush, Galmar sends the Dragonborn to assist in The Battle for Fort Sungard.
Liberate the Reach[]
Note: This is easily completed by favouring the Stormcloaks in the Season Unending part of the main quest line. Though the player will have to liberate the Rift if they choose to go this route.
Liberate Hjaalmarch[]
After speaking to Ulfric again. The player must go and speak to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Hjaalmarch Stormcloak Camp, starting the quest A False Front and later The Battle for Fort Snowhawk. Once Hjaalmarch is liberated the player will receive the title of "SnowHammer" (actually "Bone Breaker") and e.g. an Elven Shield or Glass Shield. Also the possibility to buy a properly in Windhelm from Jorleif for 12K for the Key to Hjerim.
Note: Sometimes it is not possible to speak with Galmar Stone-Fist about this particular mission. Leaving then returning, sometimes a few times will eventually get past this problem.
Liberate the Rift[]
The player will need to talk to Galmar Stone-Fist in the Rift Stormcloak Camp to start The Battle for Fort Greenwall quest. When completed you will receive an Ebony sword and the Stormcloak Officer Uniform.
Liberate Haafingar[]
Ulfric Stormcloak will tell the Dragonborn it is time to launch the attack on Solitude. The Player will need to report to Galmar Stone-Fist at the Haafingar Stormcloak Camp and start the quest The Battle for Fort Hraggstad. After winning the fort the player will finally start Battle for Solitude. After the battle you will be known as "Storm-Blade".
Note: If there is a dragon flying overhead, make sure you kill it before killing the General. The dragon tends to interrupt Ulfric's speech, which causes a bug that makes Solitude inaccessible once you leave.
Note also: Should the quest To Kill an Empire have been started, but not concluded, the presence of the false Emperor at Solitude will make Galmar hold back the attack on the city. So finish the Dark Brotherhood quest to continue with the Civil War.
