Mercer Frey is the current master of The Thieves' Guild. He leads their operations from beneath the city of Riften. He took over the guild after the death of the previous master Gallus Desidenius. It was later revealed that he killed Gallus and framed Karliah for the murder. Mercer is also directly responsible for the decline of the Guild by stealing the Skeleton Key from Nocturnal's shrine. This blocked the path to the Evergloom and prevents Nocturnal from blessing the Thieves with the uncanny luck they need to ply their trade.
