Walkthrough[ | ]

After the quest Briarheart Necropsy talking to Neloth brings up the topic of recent irregularities surrounding the wizard, the death of his steward, to name one such occurrence. Neloth is convinced that someone is trying to assassinate him. But who might that be?

Find the source of the attacks[ | ]

Neloth's Ring of Tracking lets the Dragonborn trace the source of the attacks, that is supposed to be somewhere around the settlement.

It turns out the source of the attacks derives from Ildari's sarcophagus in the graveyard just north-east of Tel Mithryn, specifically from a Heart Stone in it.

Note: This heart stone only spawns during this quest, and cannot be found before. The stone is a special quest item.

Talk to Neloth[ | ]

When the Dragonborn returns, Neloth will take back the ring and the Heart Stone.

As it turns out Ildari Sarothril, a former apprentice to Neloth, agreed to an experiment that went horribly wrong, supposedly killing her. Apparently not though, since she is now planning her revenge against Neloth. She is also responsible for the death of Neloth's previous steward. But he has been able to locate her hideout.

Kill Ildari[ | ]

The Dragonborn travels to Highpoint Tower, the main door there now has been dug out and can be unlocked. A few Ash Spawn guard the door.

There is one prisoner left, the last not having been experimented on by Ildari. The Dragonborn can choose to free Niyya from here cell, she will run towards the exit, and then wait there. Apparently it is up to the Dragonborn to protect her journey to The Retching Netch, after having dealt with Ildari.

After navigating an extensive maze of passages, possibly reading Ildari's Journal, vol. I, Ildari's Journal, vol. II and Ildari's Journal, vol. III, the Dragonborn finally encounters Ildari Sarothril herself. Suffice to say she does not survive the encounter.

Talk to Neloth[ | ]

As reward Neloth makes the Dragonborn a member of House Telvanni. This presently does not mean much apparently, but a bed and chest in the settlement will be provided. Additionally a staff from Neloth's collection is gifted.

Bugs[ | ]

  • Neither bed (all are owned) nor a chest are actually provided.
