The rank of Speaker of the Dark Brotherhood is generally synonymous with the leading member of a Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, as this individual remains continually in contact with the Listener. The Listener alone can hear the voice of the Night Mother, receiving all contracts, and then imparts all necessary information to the Speaker of each Sanctuary, so the contracts may be carried out.
