After the quest Reluctant Steward the Dragonborn can ask if Neloth needs help with his research, and as it so happens he does.
For his conjuration experiments he needs an Ash Spawn Sample, to extract it the Dragonborn is given an Ash Extractor.
Collect ash from an ash spawn[ | ]
Wander to any place where Ash Spawn remains are still available, or simply head north along the river, up-hill from Tel Mithryn. A few ash spawn should soon shown up. Then collect the sample.
Talk to Neloth[ | ]
Return to Neloth, he will take back Ash Extractor and the Ash Spawn Sample and reward the Dragonborn with gold, additionally in a day or two the Spell Tome: Conjure Ash Spawn can be bought from his apprentice Talvas Fathryon.
