While at Elgrim's Elixirs in Riften, if the Dragonborn asks Hafjorg about the business, she explains that they need all the business they can get and that there is a job they could take on if someone was willing to retrieve an ore sample from Filnjar in Shor's Stone.
Obtain Ore Sample from Filnjar[]
If the Dragonborn agrees to help, proceed to Shor's Stone and speak with Filnjar about the sample. The blacksmith then gives the sample (which is in fact Quicksilver Ore) to the Dragonborn to bring back to Hafjorg in Riften.
Return Ore Sample to Hafjorg[]
With the ore in hand, the Dragonborn returns to Elgrim's Elixirs to collect the reward.
