Quest pages[]

We need to formalize the structure for the quest pages. The objectives need to be headers on the page, and I am not so keen on having the strategy walkthrough at the top. I'd rather see it interspersed with the objectives. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:02, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

That works for me, I was just copying what i saw in other quest pages. I'd very much like to get together and discuss how any given type of page should be laid out before i do much editing. There also seem to be a few duplicates, like Hitting the Books and "Hitting the Books (Quest)". I will compile a list of my more pressing questions as i just keep coming up with more and send them to you. — Game widow (talk) 21:07, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
What we need is a full list of achievements so we have a better idea where we need the (quest)/(achievement) disambigs.... I think the current standard is to automatically add the disambig tag when creating quest pages, and those that don't have them were created before. As for the objectives being headers within the walkthrough text, that's because the infobox links to the specific sections. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:20, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
AFAIK the Achievements category is complete. There are 50 achievements and they are all listed there, I can make a table if it's easier. — Game widow (talk) 21:29, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, we need a list/table of all the achievements on an Achievements overview page. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:37, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Can you explain the purpose of uploading images so large? There really is no need to upload an image File:AncientNordBow.png at that size. It won't be used any larger than 200px. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 18:06, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

I guess that's our first major difference of opinion. Personally, i always click on images to see if there is a larger resolution available. I like large images, but for infoboxes i understand the need to make them uniform and smallish (but not too small). Are there space restrictions on these servers ? If not, i don't see the harm at all in having larger images available, even if we display them at 200px. — Game widow (talk) 18:10, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Please dont' fragment discussions. I just don't see the point. There is no need for an 800px image of a bow. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 18:33, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you are deleting old versions of images, but please stop. It's nice to have a contribution history of everyone's contributions. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 01:16, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, got to disagree with your views on image sizes Wynthyst. You may not see a reason for it, but others do. Additionally, the thumbnail images that are generated in-line are reduced in file size, thus not putting any additional strain on readers bandwidth. So while having quality images has no negative effects for the end user, it has positives for those end users. GhostAvatar 01:49, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
P.S. I adjusted the "item infobox", as it had no limit on the image height (only width). Thus, causing issues with elongated images.

Yeah, I do love making my images and making high quality ones as well. But now nifskope has support for Skyrim, I will be adding a few images here and there. Might even do a few hi-res renders if there is support for 3D Max (example). Don't know how much time I will be spending here though, as The Vault is my main priority. Just out of interest, how did you manage the item images that have enchantment effects. Never could get that to work. Also, with the images, the fix I put in above for the item infobox template should mean you no longer have to pad out the images. GhostAvatar 21:36, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Awesome! For renders, i was hoping to get all the monsters, if you feel like taking that on. I have nifscope as well, but admittedly i'm very new to it and haven't figured out some things. — Game widow (talk) 21:52, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Seems Wynthyst didn't agree with my addition to the template and removed it =( Also while I was there, I noticed your discussion of categories. I have have gone and redone Category:Weapons, as an example of what I think is the best way to categorise items. GhostAvatar 22:11, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Weapons is looking good, good work! I'll have a look at the template. — Game widow (talk) 22:24, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
FYI, just put in a switch in the template, so as long as type is set as bow it adds two hand slot weapons to the archery skill weapon category, otherwise it defaults to two handed skill weapons category. GhostAvatar 23:22, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Image attribution per CC BY-NC-SA 3.0?[]

In what manner would you like to specify how images from this wiki should be attributed per CC BY-NC-SA 3.0?

It's in the Curse footer on every page of this wiki, unless i misunderstand you. — Game widow (talk) 12:18, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Im sorry, what I mean is CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 specifies that in order to copy, distribute or transmit the work (your images), one must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor ( So should images from this wiki be attributed to SkyrimWiki or Gamewidow?
Well technically they come from Bethesda, but since i cut them out and i work for Curse, you can use either SkyrimWiki or Curse, no need to cite me particularly :) Thank-you for the consideration — Game widow (talk) 13:15, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the speedy reply. Just so we are clear and I fully understand, you have no problem with your images being posted on another website provided that FULL attribution is given to either Curse or Skyrimwiki? I just want to 100% certain beacuse I know you must have spent so much time and effort creating these amazing quality images/renders to this wiki, and I would not want to offend you in any way.
Yep, i'm fine with that, it's name of the game after all in wikis. At least you've done me the courtesy of asking which is more than most bother to do. — Game widow (talk) 14:19, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
No problem. Thank you :)

Editing and Condensing of Existing Articles[]

Hey. I noticed you condensed my two articles: my very first article contributed here on the Forsworn and my more recent one on Reachmen. I noticed when I was practicing with #REDIRECT, which I had just learned from looking at some of your own markup.

I'll make my best effort to be more efficient with articles that share sufficient overlap such as these two. Your new combination of these does seem appropriate. Notice my contributions on the two characters in The Hag's Cure in Markarth.

Any possibility that I can contribute on a new level, given my active participation here? I ask because I can't seem to edit portal pages, such as Dragons.

Certainly! I'm thrilled to have some help. I've given you administrator access. — Game widow (talk) 11:23, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I'll explore some before doing anything, but is there any hard-and-fast advice/instruction on what I'm now able to do? - jhfurnish
Essentially, you should be able to edit any page at all and do anything except grant other users rights. Here's a listGame widow (talk) 12:08, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Elder Scrolls Online Wiki[]

Hey, that new wiki is looking really nice. One thing, though -

I'm pretty certain, considering the appearance of the layout, that it's you same folk who are running that show. So -

Is there going to be any shared data? Or, since the game is so far back in the timescope of the millieu, does it require entirely new data? I mention this because of things such as, for example, the khajiit. Will the entry for the khajiit and Elsewehr be different for this new wiki than it is for this one?

Just wondering. There already seems to be vast duplication of effort between the official ES wiki and this one. Creating yet another wiki in this fictional universe with wholly new entries seems... inefficient. What's the story?

--jhfurnish 05:29, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Any lore information here will absolutely be shared. The reason for two wikis was based on expected "marketshare" for the game. Since Curse doesn't have wikis for the previous ES games, lumping just these last 2 into one seemed odd, so the decision was made to make it separate. Being a mere peon here, i do as i'm asked :) — Game widow (talk) 11:47, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Then let's consider the scope of time for the different titles. There will be things that exist in some form in both time periods, but will certainly have changed over so many centuries. IE, the City of Helgen. Immediately after the beginning of Skyrim and ever afterward it's a ruin, but it may well be a bustling city in the days of ESO. Will there be before/after entries, or before/after segments of entries? Just a thought.--jhfurnish 03:40, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
There certainly could be. I'm not into online games so i won't be as heavily involved with that wiki as i am with this one. The actual content will come from contributors other than myself, but i'll be available for technical assistance. — Game widow (talk) 10:50, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Dwemer Sphere[]

Hello! My name is Leon, and I am currently looking to create a unique Dwemer Sphere 3D model for my own personal use. While searching the web, I happened to notice that the one you added here is of the highest quality so far in my current findings. (My opinion, of course.) So I was hoping to ask you a favour: Is there any chance you can provide me with the other angles, as well? This would help me out a lot. I know it doesn't mean much, but I really would appreciate it. Thank you for reading, and I will be looking forward to your response over this matter! You may find me on my home wiki, (Nukapedia - the Fallout Wiki.) as the Administrator GarouxBloodline. 06:18, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

All I did was use the Creation Kit and inspect the "Dwemer Sphere" actor in the preview pane. I'm sure you can do the same. — Game widow (talk) 15:27, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

These Football Jersey Spams[]

Hey. We're both fighting the good fight against this idiot with the football jersey spams, but is there absolutely no way to block the general IP sending these spams, or some way to program the system to automatically trash entries that contain these references? There's got to be some sort of tool to help diminish this problem. jhfurnish 03:13, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

I'll try to get the abuse filter to deal with them, but i'm fairly new to that particular system, so it might take a few tries. Blocking the whole IP range generally does not work out well as it is probably not dedicated to these spammers, they're just using it. — Game widow (talk) 12:51, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
I've added a word to the filter that disallows particular words (not specifying it here as that would defeat the purpose :) — Game widow (talk) 12:54, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Well, we're still both deleting-and-blocking, and this idiot is still doing it. Is there some resource that teaches how to create/apply these filters? jhfurnish 04:30, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
well, there's the description of the extension on the MediaWiki site, I'll ask the tech team if they can do something more effective because so far my additions to the abuse filter have not helped — Game widow (talk) 13:00, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Gibberish Issue - the Dragon entry -[]

Not sure what really happened, because when I look at the earlier page versions I'm not seeing it, but in 'recent changes', it shows that the anonymous user at posted 'Fxxx Yxx' into it and then rolled it back from the same IP. Perhaps he did it and then rolled it back, or someone was screwing around from his machine? Since he/they corrected it, should they be blocked or not? -- jhfurnish

I'd go with blocking, but perhaps not with extreme prejudice (i.e. indefinite). Serious edits are not typically anonymous anyway. — Game widow (talk) 13:57, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Pieces of the Past[]

It's a broken page? and i'm not sure how to fix it, if I could i would but i can't.

Thanks for the heads up. Page has been fixed and vandal has been banned. — Game widow (talk) 13:58, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Active effects[]

I can finally start doing the active effects pages now, however I don't know how to create new pages from scratch so if you could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated Farsight2522 21:11, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

If you type the name of the page you want to create in the search field at the top right of the screen, if the page doesn't already exist, you'll be asked if you want to create it. Just click on the red link in that message and you're off to the races. I do check here everyday, so if there's anything i feel needs fixing, i'll see it. — Game widow (talk) 19:54, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
And please do not copy a similar article from UESPwiki. — Game widow (talk) 20:28, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
