The Order of the Vigil of Stendarr is a faction in Skyrim headquartered in the Hall of the Vigilant. The Vigil represents the 'Righteous Hand of Stendarr' and cleanses the land of Tamriel with an almost religious fervor. They were founded after the Oblivion Crisis as a means to rid all abominations infesting Tamriel including Daedra, Vampires, Werewolves, and Witches. The vigil worships Stendarr, the Nordic God of Righteous Might and Merciful Forbearance or simply known as the God of Mercy. It is the Vigil's belief that Daedra are the worst of all the abominations that plague Tamriel because they originate straight from the planes of Oblivion.
“But the Daedra are the worst. Their callous disregard for our lives is abhorrent in the eyes of the God of Mercy.
In a simplistic way the Vigil represents the 'Righteousness of Humanity' as the Light side, and the Daedra represent the 'Agents of Chaos and Oblivion' as the dark side. The Vigilants of Stendarr do not represent any beliefs other then the will of Stendarr and will drag any who resist to the "light." The Vigil protects the "Children of Tamriel" and preserves order and justice for them by providing divine justice in a deadly manner exclaiming,
“Stendarr have mercy upon you, for the Vigil has none to spare!
